2:41 pm - Bad Ass Baby
So my baby doll Taiga has had a decent head of hair since birth. It was beginning to be a problem from getting too long and going into his eyes. You may remember this being my solution:

Well, that wasn't working out so well. It was a pain. Finally, Katsufumi said "Please let me cut at least the front of his hair" I said OK. This is what happened:

Note how it's too short and totally crooked. This is because my husband didn't even pay a bit of attention to how it was going to look as he cut it. I was sad. I wanted my baby's cute long hair back. So when I wasn't looking, Katsufumi did this:

Aaaahhhhh!

After he wanted to draw on the baby's face more while he was sleeping, I finally agreed to the mohawk. We had to do it while he was sleeping, so we got started with just one side:

He likes it so far. Finally, I got him to fall asleep on the other side, so we could finish:

And here it is next day all standing up:

I might cry.

Love,
SHannon

10:04 pm - More Taiga
About a week ago, I noticed that Taiga was rubbing his eyes a lot. He didn't seem fussy/sick, no red eye, no gunk coming out of the eye. So I called the nurse help line. She couldn't think what it could be, so she had Taiga's pediatrician call me back. He didn't know either and said "I'll be honest with you, I can't make anything of it from the symptoms and if you brought him in, I'd probably just tell you that it's a virus of some unknown type."

Yay for honesty!

Eventually, I realized what's wrong with him - his hair's getting too long! I'm not sure how to deal with this because I'm too afraid to bring scissors that close to his head cuz he doesn't really hold still. Katsufumi is in favor of a mohawk. Hmmmm.

This is the solution that I came up with:

He *loves* it. When I was taking his picture, he was all smiles and he usually isn't like that. Then, when papa came home and commented on how cute he was, it was like Taiga knew that papa was saying he was cute and he got so happy and squealed and kicked. Very cute.

Also, Taiga's been liking to practice standing. He can't really do it by himself, but it's pretty early for him to even be doing this:

Finally, I put these up on Facebook with the intention of letting others see them. For some reason, I couldn't get the link to work. So now I'm putting them here:

Click here cuz I can't get it to show.

7:46 pm - Haven't updated in awhile...
While I'm getting a bit better at one-handed typing, it's still fairly difficult to do and a pain in the ass. So I don't update here so often. The micro-blogging of Facebook's "status updates" is so much easier to do, and I have a lot more of my friends that go there.

Things are good. Taiga is starting to calm down a bit and get into more of a routine. He's smiling and laughing and generally more responsive. It seems such a shame that most women would be heading back to work now. Not that I'm down on out-of-the-home working mothers, but it's like...the first two months of baby are pretty much hell and it seems like just when the baby's getting kinda fun to be around, you gotta leave him/her for hours. I'm feeling pretty lucky to work from home, though I will admit that it's a bit frustrating that everything I do generally takes twice as long as it normally would.

Here are the most recent pics of Taiga.

And a video:

I think that you can subscribe to know if I update videos, but I'm not sure how it works. That would be somewhere around here.

8:18 am - Oh. My. God. (from Taiga)
So we all share a bed and this morning after Katsufumi woke up, Taiga started fussing. I tried snuggling him, but that wasn't what he wanted, so I moved over to give him some space. I was lyin on my back stretching, when I heard a weird noise come from him.

I turned to see that he had spit up a lot. It was still in his mouth and had dribbled out the side and onto the bed. Of course, I grabbed a towel and started cleaning it up and talking to him.

Well, after I cleaned up, I swear to god he looked at me, pointed to his mouth, and gave me a look that said "Oh. My. God. Can you believe that just fucking happened to me?" It was the cutest thing ever.

4:52 pm - This Might Break Your Heart
It does mine...

So, mom, Jim and Jared have been visiting. The other night, I dropped them off at the airport to go home. The whole way home, Taiga was crying. Screaming. Poor lil guy. And I couldn't help him cuz I was driving.

That night, I came across a website that's against the "cry it out" method (letting baby cry so that he learns to sooth himself). It said, when you let baby cry, he thinks "Mommy's not coming when I cry. Mommy is perfect. There must be something wrong with me!"

Awwwwww....

Realistically, I doubt baby thinks such complex thoughts and if he did, we couldn't know them. But now every time he cries and I can't get to him right away, I picture him thinking "What's wrong with me?!"

Last night, he had a lil fever, so we went to the hospital, and he was again crying in the car. I can't really reach him, but at all the stoplights, I'd reach my hand back as best as I could, and he'd grab my finger. So heartbreaking.

2:59 am - Taiga's Birth Story
Working Title: Boy There Sure is a Lot of Shit They Don't Tell You About THAT!

Taiga's now sleeping and not in my arms (All hail the baby swing!!), so I thought I'd write out his birth story.

I read a lot of birth stories while I was pregnant. None of them accurately reflected the true horror that actually goes on in the delivery room. Apparently, there's a whole lot of secrets about it that you're not supposed to tell those that have never had children before because it will scare them away. And also I guess people forget what it's really like because they seem to keep having more than one kid.

I digress.

Very long... )

10:09 am - Get out my belly
I realized that my pregnancy factoids are all kinda gross, so I stopped that.

Going to the doctor in a bit. Tomorrow is the official due date (which I think confuses people cuz I kept telling people that I was *hoping* for Halloween when they'd ask.). Every time I go in, I hope that he says "Whoa! What's wrong with you? Don't you feel the baby's head coming out? Get to the hospital!"

Or something like that.

I think chances are slim though...

8:48 am - Pregnancy Factoid #2
Still no baby. Maybe we're trying to be the first baby born after an Obama win!

Anyway, I've consistently been shocked at the amount of time you're "supposed" to spend focusing on being pregnant. I mean, all these little things that you're supposed to do that will make you have a better birth experience or something. OK, so not everything is *required*, but suggested as viable ways to solve a problem.

For example:

*I bought a hypnobirthing home study program. Basically an alternative to Lamaze. However, you're supposed to spend an hour every day, relaxing, listening to the CDs and doing some other stuff. I totally failed at that.

*Don't want to tear during birth? Practice perineum massage for 15 minutes a day.

*Baby not hear yet? Stimulate contractions through nipple stimulation. That's all well and good, but apparently, you should stimulate each nipple for 15 minutes EVERY HOUR. That's half the day!

6:56 am - Pregnancy Factoid #1
Still waiting.

I decided that I'd treat (torture?) you all with pregnancy factoids while I'm waiting. So today's:

In movies and TV, you always know that the woman goes into labor because her water breaks, usually at some dramatic moment out in public. That's only cuz it's funny and creates drama.

In actuality, only 10% of women have their water break outside of the hospital. Of those, it's highly unlikely that it will come as some sort of big gush when you are out in public because the baby's head is typically pushing down on the cervix, basically closing it.

That means that in most cases, if your water is going to break, it will do so at night. You will wake up all wet, wondering if your water has broken or if you pissed the bed, which is not as unlikely a possibility as one might think.

3:05 pm - I'm so badass
Boohoo. While there are still a few hours left for me to start labor, it's looking more and more like it's not gonna be a Halloween baby.

I did, however, go to the doctor today. He checked out my cervix and said that it was very thin and open, which means that Taiga could come at any time.

I don't quite understand how exactly they check the cervix. You'd think that they'd use a speculum and get a good look at it. But instead, they put on a rubber glove and stare at the ceiling while probing. From my perspective, it *looks* like they really get their whole arm up there. But I think that's probably a bit unrealistic and it's probably just a finger or two. Nonetheless, I'm not sure.

The reason I mention this is that after checking out the cervix, the doc asked what I was planning for pain during the birth. I said that I prefer to not use anything, but we'll see what happens. He said that was wise and then mentioned how I did really good with the cervix exam and how I may be fine with the pain during birth.

So, kinda I'm thinking...um...that was like a finger, dude. I *think* a baby's head is a lil bigger.

But what do I know?
